Vintage Fabric
Vintage fabric has been gaining a lot of popularity off lately, it is famous for its vintage and distinct features. If you are a person who owns this kind of fabric you might be well aware of the importance of maintaining to revive its authentic features. Even if you ask the professional fabric collectors they will tell you that the more maintained fabric has more value when compared to an ill maintained fabric. Not many people are well versed with the ways of maintaining age old fabric, hence listed below are some tips that will help you revive the essence of your vintage fabric.
  • Always make it a point to ensure that the fabric is completely free of dust before you store it, if you find some dust residue you can place a nylon over the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner and then vacuum clean the fabric.
  • Always store the fabric in a dark place most suitably in a closet so that it stays away from sunlight.
  • Never store the fabric in damp or humid places, this will gradually destroy the threads of the fabric.
  • If you want to make sure that the fabric does not have creases when you use it, get into the habit of rolling the fabric rather than folding it. And if at all you fold the fabric make sure that you take it out at regular time intervals and fold them again to ensure that  dust does not get settled in the creases.
  • Cover the fabric with 100% unbleached cotton and then hang it on a padded hanger to ensure optimal safety.
  • Never store the fabric against a wooden surface, as over the time the fabric might develop spots due to the oil from the wooden surface. If you have no other option but a wooden cupboard you can use an acid tissue or a muslin cloth as a barrier between the fabric and wood.
  • Do not store vintage fabric in closed boxes or bags as this may enable mold formation, the cloth needs air circulation to prevent such instances.
  • Avoid using chemicals to prevent insects rather you can use natural things like dried lavender to keep the insects at bay.
  • When it comes to cleaning such fabric you need to be very careful, therefore never try to do it on your own ask a professional fabric collector to recommend you a professional cleaner.
  • Never be in a hurry to clean the fabric all at once, first test the cleaning agent on a small part of the cloth and only then if all is fine with the small piece of cloth go ahead with cleaning the whole length of the cloth.
  • Always cover your hands with rubber gloves when you are handling such sensitive fabric.
